Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!
A Mexican bandit by the name of Gold Hat (above) is trying to convince a gold prospector, Fred C. Dobbs, that he and his band of men are in fact Mexican federales, the police.
Dobbs, who is played by Humphrey Bogart, asks: "If you're the police, where are your badges?"
And Gold Hat replies: "Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges!"
That line now appears in popular culture as, "Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!"
That's because the original line was misquoted by Micky Dolenz in a 1967 episode of The Monkees and again in the 1974 cult Western movie, Blazing Saddles.
